Famous for its battlefield tours to Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift; Fugitives Drift Lodge has created an opportunity for visitors to experience the extraordinary saga of the Anglo Zulu War. Set in the 2000ha Fugitives’ Drift Game Reserve, it overlooks the famous battlefield of Isandlwana is next door to Rorke’s Drift and is also home to giraffe, zebra and numerous species of antelope and birds.
The lodge houses a veritable museum of artefacts, relics and memorabilia. Extremely comfortable and spacious cottages each have a large bathroom and veranda. Tranquil indigenous gardens and secluded swimming pool are set on the lip of the Buffalo River Gorge. Friendly, personal service and excellent food create a relaxed atmosphere.
Fugitives’ Drift is a Natural Heritage Site and also offers game viewing, walks, horse rides and fly-fishing. Its 15 mile river frontage on the spectacular Buffalo River Gorge includes the monument and graves of Lts Melvill V.C and Coghill V.C. who lost their lives saving the Queen’s Colour in the aftermath of the Battle of Isandlwana.
In addition to the lodge the nearby Fugitives Drift Guesthouse has a pool and offers charming, comfortable accommodation in individual cottages with views over the reserve. Tours can be arranged to all surrounding historical sites.
Well, those who will be visiting Botswana's Okavango Delta in the next few months are in for a treat! Every year this magnificent wonderland gets inundated by flood waters originating from the highlands of Angola. The waters arrive at the top or "panhandle" of the Delta in about January and get to the "end" of the Delta in June or so.
