The Selinda Reserve is a 300,000 acre /135,000 hectare private wildlife sanctuary straddling both the Okavango and Chobe systems in northern Botswana. Its vast floodplains and ancient forests offer an authentic and timeless African safari experience, but what makes this reserve so special, is it’s exclusivity.
Within this massive wilderness, a maximum of 8 game viewing vehicles is allowed at any one time - a truly exclusive experience. The reserve is one of the best places in all of Africa to view the highly endangered African wild dog, especially while they are less nomadic when they come to Selinda to den and raise their young. This is the area where some of the lions have developed a technique - and a penchant – for preying on Hippo.
The Kwando concession lying west and north west of the Selinda Reserve is one of the largest private safari areas in Africa. The Kwando River forms the eastern boundary giving the concession over 80km (250 miles) of exclusive permanent river frontage, with abundant hippo and crocodiles.
This concession, well known for its huge elephant and buffalo herds, has one of the highest concentrations of these large mammals in Africa. Predators are abundant with large numbers of lion, wild dog, hyena, leopard and cheetah. Over 300 different bird species have been recorded to date. Open grasslands and pan systems abound with impala, lechwe, steenbuck, reedbuck, wildebeest, buffalo, giraffe, tsessebe, kudu, zebra, water buck, sable, roan and eland to name a few.
