The Etosha landscape ranges from saltpans, to open plains, to dense bush. Game viewing and bird watching is superb.
Many believe that the Etosha Pan itself, which is an enormous salt pan of some 5,000 sq km, was in fact a prehistoric lake fed by a giant river which eventually dried up when its course changed. For most of the year it is a shimmering mirage-like vista. However when it rains the pan fills with water resulting in unbelievable bird watching. The birds of prey are plentiful with excellent sightings.
The Park is a photographers dream, with most of the action taking place around the waterholes. There are plenty of elephants, lions, jackals and black rhino, to mention but a few.
If you visit Namibia, do not miss Etosha!
