East of Cape Town, one enters the famous Garden Route, hailed internationally as one of the most beautiful regions in the world. Apart from the awe-inspiring scenery, the Garden Route also offers a lot of adventures and not-to-be-missed experiences.

Worthwhile places to visit on this route include the village of Hermanus – famous for great sightings of whales, particularly between May and November; and shark cage diving; Cape Agulhas; most southerly point of Africa, ostrich farms, game reserves and the Cango Caves near Oudtshoorn. 

Knysna, with its lagoon and the "heads",  two buttresses allowing access to the sea, is not to be missed. Some great accommodation is available in this area and at Plettenberg Bay. This area has particularly stunning scenery to offer. 

Activities available in the area include diving, waterskiing, walking, abseiling, paragliding and peaceful lagoon cruises. Knysna is also a centre that is well known for its craft shops and is a haven for some of the country’s most talented artists. 

Route 62 the famous inland route offers spectacular scenery, wine estates – some of the best Port producers – and great places for stopovers if you are self driving. In fact to enjoy the Garden Route you are well advised to either self drive or enjoy a guided tour.

There are some world class and challenging golf estates near Hermanus, George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
